About Nurse Keith
I’ve been a nurse since 1996, and I’ve worked in a variety of clinical settings, including home health, travel medicine, community health, case management, public health, hospice, and nursing education. I’ve held management and executive positions, including Chief Nursing Officer and Director of Nursing.
I’m a Board Certified Nurse Coach (NC-BC) under the auspices of the American Holistic Nurses Credentialing Corporation. With equal passion for nursing, coaching, writing, public speaking, and podcasting, I translate those skill sets into a desire to help nurses experience the most satisfying lives and careers possible.
I’m a popular freelance nurse writer and blogger with a long list of clients for whom I’ve written, including a large number of nursing websites and publications. I’ve maintained my award-winning blog, Digital Doorway, since 2005, and I’ve also been published in several non-fiction nursing books.
My podcast, The Nurse Keith Show, was launched in January of 2015, and offers weekly interviews with fascinating people from the worlds of nursing, medicine, healthcare, tech, and entrepreneurship, all with the aim of inspiring you to take your career to the next level. With more than 500 episodes and counting, The Nurse Keith Show is a prime audio destination for nurses who want to remain aware of the changing state of healthcare and the nursing profession in the 21st century.
I was one of the co-founders and co-hosts of RNFM Radio, a popular nursing podcast that happened to be one of the very first nursing podcasts in existence on the internet. RNFM focused on nursing careers, nurse entrepreneurship, and nursing and healthcare innovation. We began broadcasting in January of 2012, with several incarnations and combinations of co-hosts (with me as the constant common denominator) through the show’s sunset in 2017.
Personally Speaking
I grew up in central New Jersey. As a young man, I studied painting and printmaking, and summarily dropped out of two Philadelphia art schools in the early 1980s. Aside from Philly, I’ve also lived in southern Maryland, eastern and western Massachusetts, southeastern England, an Israeli kibbutz, and in an RV on the open road for a fascinating year-long journey across the United States.
That RV trip eventually delivered me to Santa Fe, New Mexico, where I currently live with my wife, Shada McKenzie, a gifted, empathic, and highly skilled traditional astrologer and reader of the tarot who I joyfully married in May of 2024. Shada frequently works with many of my career coaching clients, who all benefit greatly from the synergistic combination of holistic career coaching and the deep insight and wisdom of astrology. You can contact Shada at shada@thecircleandthedot.com for more information about her valuable and deep work that benefits so many people around the world.
In my own life, I’ve experienced enormous challenges, including loss, burnout, and personal tragedy; great joy and extensive travel; parenting, marriage, divorce, and remarriage; and a deep desire to serve others. I love knowing that I can have an impact on many levels, including the personal, organizational, local, regional, and global, and it’s my joy and humble honor to offer my services to both individuals and organizations.
I love languages, speak semi-fluent Spanish, and have always wished I could speak French. I love animals and nature, and I enjoy traveling, the visual arts, watching movies, reading both fiction and non-fiction, listening to music and podcasts, and spending time with my amazing wife, Shada.
Final Thoughts
I don’t impose my beliefs on others and don’t see myself as a special individual with the “right answers”. Rather, I use my coaching skills, intuition, and life experience to guide my clients to identify what’s most important to them as they create and manifest their own unique life vision.
