On episode 226 of The Nurse Keith Show nursing career podcast, Nurse Keith interviews Rebecca Love, RN, MSN and Andrea Jamarillo, BSN, RN, two founders of the Society of Nurse Scientists, Innovators, Entrepreneurs, and Leaders (SONSIEL.com), the mission of which is to impact global health through innovation and entrepreneurship.
Andrea Jaramillo BSN, RN is an advocate for immigration rights, women’s health, and reducing health disparities among underserved populations. Andrea has played an active role within research projects that aimed to increase access to healthcare services, reduce disparities for Spanish speaking patients and understand the relationship between health literacy and access to healthcare. She has guided and educated patients through health financial regulations and the Affordable Care Act, assessed programs to improve communication between language-discordant patients and healthcare providers, and served as an interpreter for patients participating in biomedical research.
In May 2017, she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from the University of Massachusetts – Boston. Within the practice setting, Andrea currently works as a Labor and Delivery Nurse at Boston Medical Center (BMC) where she leads healthcare innovations at the frontlines. In her role, she is passionate about empowering nurses to innovate at the bedside and challenge the status quo. She is a member of the Integrative Nursing Council at her organization where nurses innovate by incorporating integrative treatment modalities such as Aromatherapy and Reiki in nursing care delivery. She also works with the organization’s pain task force to study and implement policies for pain management intending to address the current opioid crisis.
In 2018, Andrea was awarded a BMC Safety grant to lead an interdisciplinary and interdepartmental safety project to expand team trainings at her facility, with the goal of improving patient outcomes. In her free time, she is a language and culture consultant for research projects, volunteers at a refugee clinic, participates in the Massachusetts Action Coalition Culture of Health and Social media committees and most recently she has become a founding member and emerging Fellow in the first cohort of SONSIEL – Society of Nurse Scientists, Innovators, Entrepreneurs and Leader

Rebecca holds a M.S. in Nursing from Northeastern University, B.A. in International Relations/Spanish from Boston University, and is currently Faculty at Norwich University, sits on the board of NextGen Ventures & the Host Committee for the Massachusetts ACLU. She currently lives in Marblehead, Massachusetts with her husband and 3 children.
