On episode 295 of The Nurse Keith Show career and healthcare podcast, Keith interviews Jamie Katuna, a 4th-year medical student and medical social media influencer, and her mother, Dr. Patty Fahy, MD, a physician leader, podcaster, and leadership consultant. What is it like to have two dynamic women and physicians in the same family? This brilliant duo will inspire you to think critically, challenge the status quo, and be your best.

Jamie Katuna is a 4th-year medical student who is applying to emergency medicine residencies in the fall of 2020. She is an advocate for physician leadership, authenticity in medicine, and has recently become relentless about the role of nutrition in preventing chronic medical conditions. Her work has been published on Doximity, KevinMD, and Springer Nature. She hopes to continue using her voice to influence the culture of medicine as she progresses into her medical career.

Dr. Patty Fahy is the Principal of Fahy Consulting established in 2008. She is endlessly driven to create outstanding organizational cultures especially in the medical world—where great teams and clear communication are so critical. She works individually with leaders as an executive coach, and delivers leadership development programs for executive teams and organizations.

Her Licensed to Lead podcast is dedicated to fanning the flame of physician leadership—bringing evidence to the conversation about why physicians must be at the helm in our hospitals and healthcare systems. She was a healthcare executive for eight years with Kaiser Permanente in Colorado, which had 800 physicians in its physician-led medical group. She helped lead a cultural transformation improving quality of patient care, patient satisfaction, and physician satisfaction. Patty created a team of physician leaders, the Physician Labor Advisory Group, to improve communication and working relationships among union members and physicians. She is a board-certified internal medicine physician. When she’s not podcasting or consulting you can find her enjoying a crossword puzzle with her husband, oil painting, or trying to teach her old dog new tricks.
