On episode 329 of The Nurse Keith Show nursing and healthcare career podcast, Keith interviews pediatric emergency nursing expert Deb Jeffries all about the new book, “Rapid Access Guide for Pediatric Emergencies: Providing Expert Nursing Care“, published by Springer. Publishing. If you or someone you know is a nurse who may potentially encounter emergent pediatric situations in any clinical milieu, this is the book to have in your pocket!

Deb Jeffries, MSN-Ed., RN, CEN, CPEN, TCRN is a registered nurse who began her career in healthcare as a CNA at the age of 18. Over the ensuing 38 years, she pursued her education first with an Associate’s Degree in Nursing, followed by a Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree (summa cum laude) and culminating with a Master’s Degree in Nursing with an Education focus (with honors). Because of her academic excellence combined with her commitment to serving others she was inducted as a lifetime member into Alpha Sigma Nu, the honor society of Jesuit Universities.

Ms. Jeffries quickly recognized her love of critical care and after eight years in a neuro-trauma ICU, she transitioned to emergency nursing. She dedicated much of her career to clinical education in the emergency setting and has contributed globally to the standardization, process throughput, and implementation of best practices for emergency department triage. She is a passionate advocate for standardization of the triage process and has presented triage education nationally and internationally.

Ms. Jeffries is a TNCC and ENPC course director and an ACLS, PALS, and BLS instructor. She co-authored the book Rapid Access Guide for Pediatric Emergencies: Providing Expert Nursing Care, and has authored, contributed to, or reviewed, multiple peer-reviewed publications and educational content.

Ms. Jeffries has been the force behind the development of a variety of programs specifically designed to provide nurses in the ED with the skills necessary to provide the best care possible. She developed a unique and cutting-edge trauma orientation program for a hospital system with three Level 1 trauma centers. This creative approach led to her being chosen for a poster presentation for the Trauma Center Association of America in May of 2021.

As a lifelong leader and educator,  Deb mentors clinical educators, thereby influencing this under-recognized specialty. She also works directly with and provides education to, military nurses enrolled in fellowship programs at Level 1 trauma centers in preparation for deployment to areas of conflict or war. Her unrelenting passion, caring, and commitment to emergency nurses and patients worldwide have left a legacy that can never be accurately measured or quantified.
