On episode 43 of The Nurse Keith Show, I dive deep into harnessing the power of social media for the benefit of your nursing career. Social media can be used in very powerful ways, and I’m a total social media evangelist when it comes to nurses and their careers.

Social media is a huge part of my daily life as a nurse and nurse entrepreneur; I’ve made friends, found business partners, and connected with professionals throughout the world over the years; I’ve even met many of these individuals in person. This episode of the show delves into just how awesome I know it can be for nurses who want to grow as professionals.

Nurse Keith and Renee ThompsponJust recently, I presented on social media at Dr. Renee Thompson‘s awesome MedSurg Symposium. Renee is my friend, and she’s an amazing speaker, advocate for nurses, and basically keeps nurses rolling in the aisles with laughter, even when she’s discussing arterial blood gases or pathophysiology.

There are so many social media platforms at this point in history, and some of us older nurses can feel a little overwhelmed by the choices. There’s Snapchat, Facebook, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, Periscope, Twitter, Pinterest, and more, and too¬† many choices can stop us dead in our tracks with social media option paralysis.

In this podcast, I touch on the following subjects:

Nurses’ social media reputation management: be careful out there!

DigitalReputationManagementLinkedIn: here’s a link to my roundup of LinkedIn resources. LinkedIn should be part of your professional development system. If you want me to help you, check out my LinkedIn coaching packages. Find Keith here.

Twitter: Nursing hashtags (#nurse, #nursing, #nursesrock, etc) are great ways to curate and aggregate information and conversations on Twitter. I’ve met amazing people on Twitter—including the aforementioned Renee Thompson, not to mention my business partner and pal, Kevin Ross of RNFM Radio. Find Keith on Twitter.

Facebook: NurseUp is a great Facebook group that you can join to meet other nurses; just ask Keith to invite you and introduce you around to the gang! Also, I discuss the challenges of deciding which colleagues to “friend” and who to potentially not friend. Find Nurse Keith Coaching on Facebook.

Instagram: I’m having a great time on Instagram, and lots of nurses are hanging out there now. Hashtags are also a powerful driver of content here; use it and have fun! Find Keith on Instagram!

I also discuss navigating social media, finding your tribe, the savvy use of hashtags, and many other little tips and tricks that I’ve learned over the years.

Have fun, learn, find opportunities, and meet cool people on social media!
