How to Be a Visionary 21st-Century Healthcare Leader
On episode 407 of The Nurse Keith Show nursing and healthcare career podcast, Keith interviews Certified Executive Coach Ronnie Kinsey, BSN, RN, MBA about how to be a visionary 2121st-century healthcare leader who can readily identify what's right, as well as what needs to change.
Ronnie Kinsey, BSN, RN, MBA is well-credentialed as a seasoned clinician and healthcare leader with a breadth of experience in highly recognized academic and specialty medical centers, as well as in the corporate arena.
Mr. Kinsey has made it his life mission to understand what is right with healthcare. Beyond events in early life calling him into a career in healthcare, he planned to experience working in several dynamic workplaces and well-developed healthcare systems in order to learn, grow, and make the best impact wherever possible. He is quick to share that he has had a fascinating career and an exciting life built around those opportunities in diverse geographic locations.
Ronnie is eager to share valuable insights about the transitions that have affected the roles and responsibilities of nurses over time. He began his nursing journey with paper charting when computers were not nurses' concern. Observing the wave of electronic charting crashing quickly toward the clinical setting, Ronnie quickly signed up to be part of planning and launching these systems so that he could understand how he and his own nursing practice were going to be personally impacted by them, as well as how healthcare would evolve as a result.
Having seen several public health emergencies over the course of his career, Ronnie has observed that many have involved a virus of some kind. From his perspective, COVID — coupled with short staffing, overwhelm at the bedside, divisive public beliefs about the pandemic, and increased administrative responsibilities laid upon the shoulders of hard-working clinicians — has by far been the single most disruptive event impacting nursing and healthcare since his career began.
Ronnie remains optimistic regarding the opportunity to improve the nursing, clinician, and healthcare experience with an eye toward the goal of manageable value-based outcomes. He is focused on leadership and executive coaching that has the power to develop and support bold, informed leaders who can lead us on the path to sustainable solutions to the outsized concerns seen in healthcare and leadership today.

On episode 396 of The Nurse Keith Show nursing and healthcare career podcast, Keith interviews Rachel Vasquez, MSN, BSN, RN of New Jersey-based AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center regarding how a diagnosis of breast cancer was an incredibly life-changing moment. In the course of this intimate and tender conversation, Keith and Rachel discuss how being on the other side of the stethoscope taught her invaluable life lessons, including the crucial importance of nurses being as dedicated to their own well-being as that of their patients, as well as employers investing in the health maintenance and wellness of their hard-working staff.
Rachel Vasquez, MSN, RN, is the clinical risk manager for AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center (ARMC), which is part of the regional healthcare system AtlantiCare. She is a key member of the team that oversees safety for the organization’s patients and staff. Prior to her current role, Vasquez was clinical manager of a Medical Telemetry unit at ARMC’s Mainland Campus. How Subtle Shifts in Mindset Can Help Nurse Practitioners (and Nurses) Thrive
On episode 394 of The Nurse Keith Show nursing and healthcare career podcast, Keith interviews Josie Tate, MSN, CRNP, FNP-C, a successful family nurse practitioner and inspirational NP career mentor. In the course of their spirited discussion, Keith and Josie discuss the awareness and mindset it takes to level up from RN to NP; how subtle shifts impact success; overcoming Impostor Syndrome; and how to thrive in and out of clinical practice.
Josie Tate is a family nurse practitioner and career mentor with a heart to see others succeed. Since starting her nursing journey with a BSN in 2006, her most memorable times include being a preceptor to nursing students and mentor to newly hired employees.
Soon after becoming a nurse practitioner in 2018, she saw new NPs experience a disconnect between obtaining an advanced degree and embracing the role of advanced practice provider. To bridge that gap, she created Clincepts, a mentoring resource to help nurse practitioners get happily hired.
As a nurse leader, Josie empowers nurse practitioners to start their career endeavors encouraged and equipped to start their search and seal the deal to their ideal NP job. Clincepts at its core strives to be the much needed support structure that elevates advanced practice nurses to thrive both in and out practice.
Josie is also passionate about her life outside of practice. Her favorite roles are wife to her college sweetheart and mom to their three fun-filled kids. In her spare time, you can catch her completing a home decor project or reading a self-development book.

Nurse Author Theresa Brown on When a Nurse Becomes a Patient
On episode 375 of The Nurse Keith Show nursing and healthcare career podcast, Keith interviews renowned NY Times bestselling nurse author Theresa Brown, PhD, BSN, RN regarding her latest memoir, Healing: When a Nurse Becomes a Patient. In this beautiful and powerful book, Theresa describes an encounter with her own diagnosis of breast cancer and the often maddening American healthcare system, including a shocking lack of compassion, and egregiously poor communication on the part of healthcare professionals she encountered on her journey. Join Keith and Theresa for a personal and poignant discussion of life on the other side of the stethoscope.
Theresa Brown is a nurse and writer who lives in Pittsburgh. Her third book — Healing: When a Nurse Becomes a Patient — was published in April 2022. It explores her diagnosis of and treatment for breast cancer in the context of her own nursing work. Her book, The Shift: One Nurse, Twelve Hours, Four Patients' Lives, was a New York Times Bestseller.
Theresa has been a frequent contributor to the New York Times and her writing has appeared on CNN.com, in The American Journal of Nursing, The Journal of the American Medical Association, and the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Theresa has been a guest on MSNBC Live and NPR’s Fresh Air. Critical Care: A New Nurse Faces Death, Life, and Everything in Between is her first book that chronicles her initial year of nursing, and has been adopted as a textbook by schools of nursing across the country.

The Fascinating Career Journey of a Dynamic and Forward-Thinking Nurse Practitioner
On episode 373 of The Nurse Keith Show nursing and healthcare career podcast, Keith interviews Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner Claire Afua Ellerbrock, DNP, APRN, PMHNP-BC, regarding her fascinating career journey. Keith and Claire discuss the challenges faced by new NPs, underserved populations, Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) for substance use disorders, tribal health, and the trend toward the DNP. Also discussed is Claire's business, NP for NPs, and her signature Transition to Practice online course for new NPs.
Claire Ellerbrock is a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner in Columbus, Ohio. Claire found that while her graduate program prepared her for being a nurse practitioner, she could have benefitted from more support in the transition period into practice. This realization led her to create NP for NPs: Nurtured Path For Nurse Practitioners, an online course and coaching program that guides NP students and recent grads in the transition period from graduation into practice. Claire provides resources about board certification and licensure, how to effectively interview, negotiate job offer contracts, and find clinical support once in the role. Her vision is to help empower all NPs to recognize their value and agency in practice.
Claire is also passionate about health equity and providing quality mental health care to marginalized and under-served populations. Claire received her DNP from Kent State University, MSN from Case Western Reserve University, and BA in Psychology from Washington University in St Louis.
