To celebrate Nurses Week 2022 on episode 369 of The Nurse Keith Show nursing and healthcare career podcast, Keith discusses the crucial importance of the specialty of med-surg nursing with two leaders of the Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses: Terri Hinkley, Chief Executive Officer, and Summer Bryant, President of the Board.
Terri Hinkley, EdD, MBA, BScN, RN, CAE was hired by the Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses (AMSN) and the Medical-Surgical Nursing Certification Board (MSNCB) in August 2017. Terri has over 32 years in acute care nursing in the healthcare setting. She has ten years of association management staff experience, having held executive positions in both individual membership associations and certification boards.
Terri was elected as the President of the American Board of Nursing Specialties (ABNS) in July 2021 and is a Director on the Board of Directors for the Institute of Credentialing Excellence (ICE), the Nurses on Boards Coalition (NOBC), and the Otsuka Patient Assistance Fund. She received her RN from Centennial College, BScN from York University, an Executive MBA from Athabasca University, and an Ed.D. in the Executive Leadership (ELP) Human and Organizational Learning (HOL) Program at the George Washington University.
Summer Bryant, DNP, RN, CENP, CMSRN is a Senior Managing Consultant in BRG’s Healthcare Performance Improvement practice. She has over 20 years of nursing experience, and much of her career has been focused in nursing leadership. She has led teams in a variety of departments to transform performance, reduce staff turnover, and deliver high quality care and patient service. Summer is adept at managing projects and people while building a cohesive, collaborative environment and developing staff into leaders.
Prior to joining BRG, Summer excelled in a variety of nursing leadership roles at an academic health system. She focused on maximizing staff performance and streamlining the delivery of patient care by effectively using resources. Summer was consistently recognized for top performance and selected for high-priority initiatives, task forces, and committees as well as interim nurse manager roles throughout the organization. She is Lean-certified and an active nurse mentor.
