Understanding the Power, Benefits, and Career Potential of Apharesis and Blood Collection

On episode 417 of The Nurse Keith Show nursing and healthcare career podcast, Keith interviews Lori Harada, BSN, RN, the Senior Manager of the Technical Excellence Team of Terumo Blood and Cell Technologies. With her vast knowledge of blood transfusion and related products in the industry, Lori provides unique insight and understanding of the fascinating world of apharesis, blood collection, and transfusion. In the course of the episode, Lori shares a deeply personal story, as well as the story of her career, both of which can serve as sources of inspiration for nurses seeking a pathway to new directions for their nursing journey.

Lori Harada is the senior manager for the Technical Excellence team at Terumo Blood and Cell Technologies. She has almost 40 years of nursing experience with 35 years in apheresis practice and the industry. Lori manages a team of 12 Specialists that provide education and support for both the Spectra Optia and Trima Accel apheresis devices.

In her 35 years of experience, Lori has held positions from apheresis operator, clinical trainer, sales and marketing. But her true love is education. Seeing a new operator catch the passion of treating patients with apheresis is what brings joy to Lori, as well as instilling knowledge in her specialists so that they share that passion of improving patients’ lives.

Lori is seen as a leader in the industry and has moderated several webinars for ASFA and ASPHO. In her free time, Lori enjoys living in Colorado where she skis, hikes, and plays golf.
