On episode 399 of The Nurse Keith Show nursing and healthcare career podcast, Keith interviews Jim Cleghorn, Director of Member Engagement and Government Affairs at the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) regarding the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) and its direct impact on nurses’ careers and available opportunities.
As the NCBSN website states, “The NLC increases access to care while maintaining public protection at the state level. Under the NLC, nurses can practice in other NLC states, without having to obtain additional licenses.” At the time of this recording, there were 37 states and two other jurisdictions (Washington, D.C. and Guam) signed on, with a number of other new members pending (Pennsylvania, Ohio, and the U.S. Virgin Islands).
If you want to understand the history, impact, and future of the NLC, this episode is for you!
